Rere - Faux reload

2005-01-01 20:12 - Bookmarklets

Firefox has a behavior which is both wonderful and horrible. When reloading a page, it will check all the images, style sheets, javascripts and other files linked to it that are necessary to display the page. This is great for developers that may be changing one of these files, and want to see the changes. This is bad for surfers who just want to see the content of the page change. Especially so is eBay listing pages. It takes significantly longer to reload an eBay listing page than to view a second or third different listing. Firefox checks all the linked files, of which eBay has quite a few. Enter Rere. It changes the URL slightly, to make the web server send the same page, but still, make it send the page.

If you are attempting to contact me, ask me a question, etc, please send me a message through the contact form rather than posting a comment here. Thank you. (If you post a comment anyway when it should be a message to me, I'll probably just delete your comment. I don't like clutter.)
